DECA Business Students Compete at State Competition in Rochester

From March 8 - 10, two Glen Cove High School students joined over 3,000 students from across the state and competed at the New York State DECA Career Competition held in Rochester, NY.  Heather Alvarado kicked off the competition by singing the National Anthem. Students competed in a variety of events in different areas of business, including marketing, finance, business administration and entrepreneurship. Congratulations to Philip Dilgard-Clark who was awarded 3 medals and ranked in the Top 10 in NYS for Business Finance. We are so proud of our business teacher, Jonathan McKinnon and our student members for making an important impact in our school and community.

The DECA experience starts in the classroom where students learn business concepts in preparation for college and careers. A powerful instructional component, DECA brings the classroom to life by empowering the teacher-advisor to make learning relevant with educational programs that integrate into classroom instruction, apply learning, connect to business and promote competition. The successful integration of each of these four interconnected components, also part of DECA’s guiding principles, results in a strong program that produces college- and career-ready students.
