Finley Middle School Student-Actors Take the Stage for Production of Guys and Dolls
The Finley Middle School Drama Club recently staged a successful production of Guys and Dolls. Finley’s student-actors took the stage for their first live theater production in two years due to the coronavirus pandemic, which was especially meaningful to eighth-grade students who were given a final opportunity to perform before moving on to high school.
The classic musical, Guys and Dolls, takes place in 1930s Times Square, Manhattan, and follows a couple of high-rolling gamblers and the women who love them. The play tells the story of gambler Sky Masterson, who falls for mission worker Sarah Brown, and the charming Nathan Detroit, who is engaged for 14 years to Miss Adelaide, a headliner at the Hot Box Club.
Nathan is looking for a safe place to host his renowned game of craps, while Miss Adelaide tries to convince him to marry her. Meanwhile, Sarah tries to fight off her love for Sky after she mistakenly believes he is trying to set up an illegal game with Nathan at the mission.
“We are so proud of our very talented students, who, under the direction of Christopher Moll, put on an amazing show,” said Finley Middle School Principal Nelson Iocolano. “We are especially happy that we finally had the opportunity to see our talented eighth graders in action before they move on to grace the stage of the high school.”
“It was such a pleasure to see such a talented group of students performing this classic musical! All of our students involved in the cast and crew did an incredible job bringing this story to life. This was a spectacular return to live theater after a two-year hiatus,” added Dr. Maria Rianna, Superintendent of Schools.
