2022 Greentree Elementary Educators Week

On July 15, some of our Glen Cove teachers who are Greentree Alumni had the opportunity to present at the 2022 Greentree Elementary Educators week. It was truly a pleasure to be back at Greentree. We were happy to share ways we have incorporated what we had learned at Greentree into our individual classrooms, our grade level curriculum and school-wide initiatives.

Antoinette Hatzopoulos and Michelle Mardiney spoke about Nature Journaling and it’s impact on vocabulary acquisition for both native and non-native English speakers. They demonstrated how students can use nature journals, field guides and various science tools to take ownership of their learning outside.

Giselle Taylor and Sue Seltzer shared our interdisciplinary kindergarten research unit, The Monarch and the Milkweed, hands-on activities such as our very special seed ball making day in the spring of 2021 and having students make models to demonstrate their learning.

Jessica McKenna spoke about our 2022 K-2 Eco-Carvival and the district’s commitment to outdoor education and teaching our students to become stewards of the Earth.
