PRHYLI Delegates Welcome Assemblymember Lavine

PR HYLI Lavine Visit

We were honored to welcome Assemblymember Charles D. Lavine this morning for a special session with our Puerto Rican/Hispanic Youth Leadership Institute (PRHYLI) delegates.

Student delegates Diana Rodriguez, Yossiri Espinoza, and Stephany Platas led a thoughtful and engaging interview, asking insightful questions that explored the intersections of civic engagement, journalism, and community advocacy. It was an incredible opportunity for our students to gain firsthand experience in leadership and learn directly from a prominent community leader.

The Angelo Del Toro Puerto Rican/Hispanic Youth Leadership Institute (PR/HYLI) is a program dedicated to developing the leadership skills of Hispanic youth. This spring, our delegates will travel to Albany for a three-day Institute, culminating in a mock legislative session in the Assembly Chamber. There, they will have the opportunity to debate bills that directly impact their local communities.

Thank you to Ashley Ghiraldi, Coordinator of World Languages, Domifer Francisco-Rodriguez, and Dr. Alexa Doeschner, Superintendent, for her support and visit to the library during the session.

Congratulations to Diana, Stephany, and Yossiri on your hard work, professionalism, and leadership!
