Our Superintendent Dr. Alexa Doeschner Featured in Newsday on AI in Education
Our Superintendent, Dr. Doeschner, was recently featured in Newsday's article, "Nassau school superintendents share thoughts on AI." In the piece, she highlights how Glen Cove is leading the conversation on technology in the classroom:
"In Glen Cove, we do not approach AI as a screen problem. We treat it as a thinking problem, and thinking is the whole point of school." — Dr. Alexa Doeschner
Rather than focusing only on whether a screen is on, we ask whether AI helps students think for themselves or does the thinking for them. The tools built to keep children scrolling are not the same as those designed to help them learn, and while limits on daily screen time matter, so does the purpose behind that time.
We ask our teachers two guiding questions. When is it irresponsible to use AI, and when is it irresponsible not to? AI can remove the barriers that frustrate learning, like language, access, and slow feedback, but it should never remove the productive struggle where real growth happens.
