The Glen Cove City School District is proud to announce that Liza Carfora has joined the district as the new principal of Landing Elementary School. Ms. Carfora brings almost 25 years of experience as an educator. She began her career with the New York City Department of Education in 2001 as a Teaching Fellow, working with students in grades K-4 in communities across Queens, Manhattan, and Brooklyn. For the past three years, she served as an assistant principal at West Middle Island Elementary School in the Longwood Central School District.

Her leadership focuses on building schools where everyone — students, families, and staff — feels included, cared for, and valued. She believes strong relationships help all students not only  succeed, but thrive. She dedicated her time as a teacher and assistant principal to fostering community. She coordinated school events and leveraged the arts to showcase and celebrate our diversity and interconnectedness. She also led community circles, teacher learning circles, and used restorative practices to improve school culture.

“It’s an honor to be the new principal of Landing Elementary School and to join the Glen Cove School community. I am especially excited to join a dynamic team of talented educators,” said Liza Carfora. “I’m so grateful for the incredibly warm welcome that I have received from everyone.”

Ms. Carfora earned a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Psychology from New York University, a Master of Science in Education from Queens College (CUNY), a Certificate of Advanced Study in Literacy Studies from Hofstra University, and a Master of Education in Progressive Leadership from Bank Street College of Education. She is also a graduate of the Leaders in Education Apprenticeship Program (L.E.A.P)  from the NYC Department of Education.

The Glen Cove City School District welcomes Principal Carfora and looks forward to the positive impact she will bring to the Landing Elementary School community.
