Junior Ryan Mitchell Selected for LIU Honor Band Festival

For the first time, a student has been selected to participate in the upcoming LIU Honor Band Festival: high school junior and percussionist, Ryan Mitchell.  Ryan will perform in a large ensemble featuring the top student musicians from 50 different high schools across Long Island, performing alongside members of the LIU Post Wind Symphony. He will also have the opportunity to work with Brian Balmages, a well-known and prolific composer, rehearsing and performing two original compositions under Balmages’ direction.

The festival runs from April 27 through April 29, involving three days of intensive workshops and rehearsals. The weekend culminates in a formal concert showcasing the repertoire the students have mastered. 

Ryan’s selection is a testament to his incredible work ethic and musicality,” says Brittney Frank Rifkind, Glen Cove High School Band Director. “Having our first student represented at this festival is a milestone for our program and I know Ryan will thrive under composer Brian Balmages.”
