Glen Cove Schools Receive $89,108 Rebate Check as Part of Energy Efficiency Partnership with PSEG Long Island and Ecosystem
The Glen Cove City School District is excited to announce its partnership with PSEG Long Island and Ecosystem to implement significant energy improvements through an Energy Performance Contract (EPC). During a recent walkthrough at Glen Cove High School, key upgrades were highlighted, including new lighting, boilers, and solar panels—initiatives that promise to reduce energy costs and enhance sustainability.
After two bond proposals failed, the district sought alternative solutions for necessary facility upgrades. By joining PSEG Long Island’s Rebate Program, Glen Cove Schools became one of the first districts on Long Island to engage in this collaborative effort, ensuring long-term energy savings without raising taxes for local residents.
On October 23rd, PSEG Long Island presented the district with a rebate check for $89,108 during a Board of Education meeting, celebrating Glen Cove’s commitment to energy efficiency. Additional upgrades include enhancements to heating and cooling systems, the installation of LED lighting, and the integration of Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) across all schools.
In June 2024, Glen Cove Schools were honored by the Long Island PSEG Department of Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy (EERE) for their achievements in energy efficiency. Thanks to Ecosystem’s expertise, the district now generates 50% of its electricity from solar panels installed across four schools. The project is nearing completion and will soon enter its energy savings monitoring phase.
Victoria Galante, Assistant Superintendent for Business, praised the collaboration: “Working with the Ecosystem team has been a pleasure. With nearly two decades in construction projects, I can confidently say this initiative demonstrates Glen Cove’s commitment to sustainability and financial responsibility while creating a healthier learning environment for our students.”
The recent walkthrough featured insights from Ecosystem founder Andre Rochette, Glen Cove Schools Director of Facilities Viktor Tymchynyuk, and PSEG Long Island’s Director of Energy Efficiency and Renewables, Michael Voltz, who emphasized the district's proactive approach to facility and energy upgrades. The collaborative EPC is designed to deliver long-term savings for homeowners without increasing the current tax burden.
Michael Voltz highlighted the substantial improvements made, including replacing outdated boilers and installing solar panels, which will significantly lower energy costs. Glen Cove Schools proudly became the first district on Long Island to participate in PSEG Long Island’s rebate program, reflecting their commitment to being responsible stewards of both funds and energy.
This initiative encompasses a comprehensive assessment of all schools and the district’s administration building, with nine projects already completed and more on the horizon. Upgrades include interior and exterior LED lighting, VFDs, hot water pumps, and smart scheduling during idle hours—projects expected to yield significant savings of approximately $80,000 annually.
As the district moves forward, Glen Cove Schools look forward to celebrating even more achievements once all projects are completed.
