Glen Cove High School Senior Brooke Simmons Selected for Puerto Rican National Softball Team

 

The Glen Cove City School District is proud to announce that high school senior Brooke Simmons (Class of 2026) has been selected to represent the Puerto Rican National Softball Team. This prestigious selection places Brooke among the world’s elite athletes as she prepares to compete on the international stage.

In addition to this incredible national team selection, Brooke has officially committed to continue her academic and athletic career at the collegiate level, playing Division I softball for Howard University following her graduation this spring.

Brooke’s journey with Team Puerto Rico begins with a high-stakes summer. She will travel to Lima, Peru, the Dominican Republic and Canada to participate in the preliminary rounds of the Women’s Softball World Cup.

This tournament serves as the first critical step in the qualification process for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) recently confirmed a rigorous path to the Olympics, and Brooke will be right in the thick of the action:

If Brooke and Team Puerto Rico finish in the top two in Peru, they will advance to the World Cup Finals. A strong performance in the 2027 World Cup Finals or the Americas Continental Qualifier could secure the team a direct spot in the 2028 Summer Games.

Brooke’s selection is a testament to years of hard work, discipline, and the "Big Red" spirit. Representing both Glen Cove and Puerto Rico, she embodies the dedication we strive to instill in all our student-athletes.
