Glen Cove City School District – Transportation Reminders

Dear Families,

As we begin the new school year, we want to ensure a smooth and safe start to daily transportation. The first few weeks of school can sometimes bring delays as routes settle in. To help, we ask families to please plan for the following:

• Be early at the bus stop: For the first week of school, students and families should arrive at least 15 minutes before the scheduled pick-up time. This pertains to the morning and the afternoon bus times. 
   
• If an issue arises: Your first call should be to your child’s school building. Staff there can assist and coordinate with Transportation.
   
• Kindergarten - Second Grade Reminder: An adult needs to be present at the bus stop for students in grades Kindergarten - Second Grade for the child to be allowed off the bus. 
   
• Third - Fifth Grade Reminder: As students enter third grade, they are permitted to walk home from the bus even if no adult is present. If your child would prefer not to get off without someone meeting them, please make sure they tell their bus driver—they will then be brought back to the school building should there not be an adult present at the bus stop.
   
• Transportation Eligibility Reminder:
   
  • All students in Kindergarten through Grade 5 receive transportation to and from school.
     
  • Students in Grades 6–12 who live more than one mile from their school are eligible for transportation.
