Finley Student Honored at Raynham Hall Poetry Awards

Finley Middle School teachers Carli Fonseca and Tracy Roberts introduced students to the Raynham Hall Museum’s annual Valentine’s Day Poetry Contest. The competition is held in honor of a 1779 poem written by Lt. Col. John Graves Simcoe to Sally Townsend, one of the earliest known Valentines in American history.

Seven Finley students submitted original entries to the contest this year. Out of more than 200 applicants, 7th grader Vittoria Blanco earned second place overall in her category.

Vittoria was recognized for her achievement at an awards ceremony held on February 12 at Town Hall North in Oyster Bay. Congratulations to Vittoria and all of our participating students for their hard work and creativity. Mrs. Roberts and Ms. Fonseca are very proud of these talented writers!
