Finley Middle School 8th Graders Represent Skin Ink at New York State Virtual Enterprise Trade Show

FMS Business LIU Post VE Trip

On January 15, 2026, Mr. McKinnon, Ms. Tanner, and their 8th-grade middle school Virtual Enterprise class participated in the New York State Regional Virtual Enterprise (VE) Entrepreneurship Business Plan Competition and Trade Exhibition held at Long Island University Post. This event brought together student-run firms from across Long Island and New York State to compete in the first round of the National Business Plan Competition while also showcasing their businesses in a professional trade-show setting.

Notably, our school was one of only two middle schools to set up a Trade Booth, and the only middle school to compete in the Business Plan Presentation Competition, which required students to present their business plan and company information to a panel of judges.

The class represented Skin Ink, a student-founded LLC that first launched during the 2024–2025 school year and has since expanded its product line. The business sells skin-safe products such as a protective spray for skin ink markers, a smoothing moisturizer, cleansing wipes, and stencils designed to encourage safe self-expression.

Guided by its mission statement, “Inspiring creativity with safe, washable products,” Skin Ink promotes creativity without compromising health. Addressing concerns about skin safety and chemical exposure, the company emphasizes fun, stress-free expression for all users. Through strong sales performance at the competition, Skin Ink has earned $102,362.41 in revenue.

At LIU Post, students demonstrated their entrepreneurial skills through written business plan submissions, oral presentations, and hands-on product promotion, applying real-world business concepts learned through the Virtual Enterprise program. We are so proud of our students for their hard work, professionalism, and dedication — especially our Business Plan Presentation team: Giacomo Talisaysay, Anderson Alvarenga, Ava Barton, Sophia Penafiel, Liana Dondero, Jefferson Segovia, Percy Hernandez, and Catherine Hernandez.
