Today, the Glen Cove City School District was buzzing with creative energy as FAME GC and the Finley Middle School PTA, in close coordination with the Glen Cove City School District administration, hosted award-winning actor Luis Guzmán for an immersive, district-wide Cultural Arts Experience.

The visit went far beyond a standard celebrity appearance. Guzmán, known for his iconic roles in Wednesday, Narcos, and Boogie Nights, spent the morning engaging with students in a series of "fireside chats" and a professional-grade Interdisciplinary Cultural Arts Lab, effectively turning the school into a live media production set.

Middle school students in grades 6–8 participated in Q&A sessions where Guzmán shared insights from his three-decade career. He spoke candidly about his transition from a New York City social worker to a Hollywood mainstay, emphasizing the values of perseverance, authenticity, and cultural pride.

“This is exactly the kind of opportunity FAME GC was created to make possible,” said Maria Laino DeLuca, FAME GC representative. “By partnering with the Finley Middle School PTA and the District leadership, we are not only bringing an extraordinary artist to our students—we are demonstrating what’s possible when a community and its schools invest together in creativity, culture, and real-world learning.”

A cornerstone of the event was the Interdisciplinary Cultural Arts Lab, a joint effort between district educators and community partners. Modeled after a professional Hollywood press junket, High School media students worked the event, taking place in an authentic learning experience, as a professional production crew

  • TV Production students managed the multi-camera filming of the auditorium sessions.

  • Journalism students conducted formal news interviews, honing their investigative skills.

  • Podcast students hosted red-carpet-style segments to capture the day’s highlights.

  • Photography students captured professional portraits and event imagery for their portfolios.

This seamless collaboration underscores Glen Cove’s commitment to being a premier destination for arts and media on Long Island. By bridging the gap between the classroom and the professional world, the district and its partners are preparing students to be the next generation of culture creators.

“Today, we didn't just consume media; we created it,” added Dr. Alexa Doeschner, Superintendent of Schools. “This event was a testament to the power of our district's partnership with FAME GC and the PTA. Together, we have set a new standard for experiential learning and shown our students the incredible heights they can reach.”
