ENL Students Lead Middle School Presentation for Seal of Civic Readiness

ENL Presentation

Our High School English as a New Language (ENL) students recently visited the Middle School to lead an important talk about the health risks of vaping as part of their work for the Seal of Civic Readiness.

The students gave their presentation in both English and Spanish. This helped make sure every student could understand the message. The high schoolers taught their younger peers about:

The History of Tobacco: How smoking products have changed over time.

Brain Chemistry: How nicotine affects a growing brain and why addiction is a physical struggle, not just a lack of willpower.

Smart Choices: Giving younger students the facts they need to say "no" to peer pressure.

We are incredibly proud of the following students for their leadership and advocacy: Jazmin C., Rosio R., Jeydi B., Micaela G., and Maria P.

This project was a success thanks to the hard work of our students and staff. Special thanks to Mr. Flores who mentored the students in transforming their class project into a tangible real-world service, to Social Studies Chairperson Ms. Tayla Plotke for her instrumental support of this inter-school partnership, and to Ms. Tufano and Ms. Rodriguez for their generosity in welcoming the presenters into her classroom. The District is very proud of our ENL students for using their voices to help keep our community healthy.
