Glen Cove Second-Grade Trio Outpaces 82 Districts to Advance to State Finals in Albany

The Glen Cove City School District is proud to announce that, for the fourth consecutive year, second-grade students from Deasy School have secured the first-place regional title in the First in Math Statewide Elementary Mathematics Tournament.

Representing Mrs. Nicole Crumlich’s class, students Malek Mesbah, Dillan Gonzalez, and Isaac Abraham each earned individual first-place regional honors by demonstrating extraordinary mathematical speed and accuracy. Competing with 82 school districts across Nassau, Rockland, and Putnam-Westchester counties, these three champions will now represent the District as a team at the state level.

In recognition of their achievement, the school was awarded a regional plaque, individual trophies for the students, and a $1,000 grant. To celebrate the success, the school will hold a spirited “clap-out”, with students and staff lining the hallways to cheer them on for the state championship on June 12, 2026.

"We are incredibly proud that our District is being represented in this statewide competition for the fourth consecutive year," said Superintendent Dr. Alexa Doeschner. "Our students' focus and skill are remarkable. None of this would be possible without the strong foundation built by Ms. Crumlich.”

"Their hard work, determination, and curiosity have truly paid off, and these are the life lessons I strive to teach them throughout their time with me. I couldn’t be more proud of them," said Mrs. Nicole Crumlich.

This victory marks Deasy School’s fourth straight appearance at the state-level tournament. The trio will advance to the New York Statewide Championship Tournament, held in Albany on June 13, 2026 where they will compete as a team for the state title.
