Connolly School’s 9th Annual Breast Cancer Walk-A-Thon

Connolly School held its 9th Annual Breast Cancer Walk-A-Thon on Thursday, October 16, organized by Ms. Susan Stanco, Ms. Nancy Gorman, and the Connolly Student Council. The event brought together students, staff, families, and community members to support the fight against breast cancer.

Thank you to Principal Dr. James Grossane and Dr. Allison Hernandez for joining us and inspiring everyone with Dr. Hernandez’s personal story. We also thank the Glen Cove Fire Department, Glen Cove Police Department, Mayor Pam Panzenbeck, the City of Glen Cove, our Board of Education, administrators, custodial staff, Ms. Bernardo, Ms. Criblez, our teachers, and parent volunteers for making the day a success.

This year’s Walk-A-Thon raised an incredible $1,767, with proceeds benefiting local nonprofit Glen Cove Cares and the American Cancer Society. Highlights included a check presentation by our Student Council, a performance of “Fight Song” led by Ms. Criblez and selected students, and a community walk led by the Glen Cove Police and Fire Departments.

Connolly’s 36 Student Council members helped run a Pink Lemonade Stand and created posters to promote the event, raising $174.50 through lemonade and bracelet sales.

Special recognition goes to Julie Steinhauser, who raised $404.00 by selling bows and socks purchased with a gift card and a donation from her grandfather, with help from her mom, Rosie; Damon Anand, who made beautiful bracelets with friends; and Isabella Martens, who surprised the council with handmade loom bracelets.
