Connolly School Holds Their Annual Spelling Bee

On January 23, Connolly Elementary School buzzed with excitement during its annual Scripps National Spelling Bee. The event highlighted the impressive vocabulary of our fifth-grade students. The journey began earlier this month with classroom spelling bees, narrowing the field to eight talented finalists.

Kevin M. (champion), Haider J. (runner up) and Leia R., Kelsie Q., Camille C., Diego F., Kiera A., and Leonard H. 

In the championship round, Kevin M. correctly spelled the word “bracken" to earn the title of Connolly Spelling Bee Champion. Kevin will move on to an online assessment for the chance to qualify for the Long Island Regional Spelling Bee. We are incredibly proud of all of our participants for the hard work they put into preparing for this challenge.  

A special thank you to Ms. Dora Ricciardi and Ms. Rebecca Carfora for organizing the event, and to our judges Dr. James Grossane, Ms. Giselle Taylor, and Ms. Ricciardi. We also appreciate the support of Superintendent Dr. Alexa Doeschner and Assistant Superintendent Mr. Bryce Klatsky for attending.
