English Department
About our Department
-
We support students as they become skillful and passionate readers who learn about themselves, the world, and others through diverse texts. We empower students to create change and beauty through clear, persuasive, and skilled writing. Our students develop identities as readers and believe in the power of their writing.
Readers and writers of the Glen Cove City School District begin their literacy journey in elementary school with instruction in phonics, reading workshop, and writing workshop. As students develop a passion for reading and a capacity for impactful writing, they engage in a variety of courses including Advanced Placement and dual-enrollment college courses in the high school. We partner with several organizations to support our students’ development including Wilson Fundations, Teachers College Reading and Writing Project, College Board, and the Long Island University HIgh School Scholars Program.
