Slots are limited and are assigned based on a lottery. Submission of the application is not a guarantee of acceptance to the Pre-K program.
This program is funded from the New York State UPK and the SUFDPK Grant Program.
A limited number of roster spots will be available for the Pre-K program within the Glen Cove City School District. Also, local community-based Pre-K programs will provide other roster spots.
A lottery will be held on April 22, 2025 to determine which students will have a roster spot. The lottery will also determine the order on the waitlist should there be more students who register than there are spots available.
All families who wish to participate in the lottery must prove residency and register by April 11, 2025.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Pre-K program free?
Yes.
- Is the Pre-K program half day or full day?
The program will be 6 hours per day, 5 days a week, likely from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. but specific start/end times may vary at the community based pre-k location.
- What is the calendar for Pre-K?
The program follows the Glen Cove City School District calendar. https://www.glencoveschools.org/calendar1
- Is the program run by the Glen Cove City School District?
The program will be run by the Glen Cove City School District. Some of the classes will take place inside the Glen Cove City School District and others will take place at a community-based Pre-K site, which for next year will be the YMCA in Glen Cove.
- Who is eligible?
Children who are residents of the Glen Cove City School District and who turn 4 on or before December 1, of the year they would be entering pre-kindergarten, are eligible for the program.
- If I register my child for the UPK Lottery, are they guaranteed a placement in the program?
No. The lottery will determine if a child has been selected for one of the roster spots for the UPK. If selected, parents will be notified in writing within one week of the lottery.
- How will I know if my child has been chosen?
Parents of children selected for the program will be notified, in writing, within one week of the drawing.
- How does the lottery work?
All students are placed into a lottery system and as their names are pulled, they are placed in our UPK classes starting with Deasy, next Landing, and then the YMCA. The rotation is based on the number of available classes in each location, and since Deasy has three available classes, the first three students are placed at Deasy, the next student is placed at Landing, and then the next student is placed at the YMCA. We continue this rotation for all the available spots in our UPK program.
- What happens if my child does not get picked during the lottery?
You will receive the number where you fall on the waitlist out of the total number of families on the waitlist.
- If I have multiple children and one gets into the program through the lottery will the other child(ren) be admitted as well?
Yes. Multiple children (twins, triplets, etc.) will be selected and assigned to the same location.
- What if I would like to switch the location where my child is assigned?
When the family of a student who is picked during the lottery wants to switch placements, we wait to see if there is an equitable switch that can happen with another student whose family wants to switch that child to another placement.
- Where will the Pre-K program be housed?
There will be one Pre-K class at Landing School and three Pre-K classes at Deasy Elementary School, and also one in the community-based Pre-K center, which next year will be the YMCA in Glen Cove.
- Will my child attend the Pre-K program closest to their house?
We cannot guarantee placement in a particular building. However, when registering your child, you can indicate the location you would like your child to attend, and we will make every attempt to accommodate your request.
- What type of curriculum is taught in the program?
The Glen Cove City School District and the outside provider must follow all standards set forth by the New York State Education Department.
- Will transportation be provided?
No
