Breakfast and Lunch Program
Glen Cove CSD participates in the National School Lunch Program, offering breakfast and lunch in all schools district-wide. Meals are prepared in accordance with United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) regulations, with updates beginning in the 2012-2013 school year based on the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. These guidelines align with the goals of our District Wellness Committee.
Major School Meal Changes:
- Students are required to take a serving of fruit and/or vegetables as part of their meal.
- Calorie minimums and maximums are set for different grade levels (K–5, 6–8, 9–12).
- A greater variety of vegetables, including dark green and red/orange varieties, and beans/legumes.
- Increased whole grain offerings.
- Milk choices include plain low-fat, fat-free, and flavored fat-free options.
- Reduced saturated fat and sodium.
- Zero grams of trans fat.
Our district is proud to have already met these requirements and we continually seek new menu items to enhance the program for our students.
