Breakfast and Lunch Program

Glen Cove CSD participates in the National School Lunch Program, offering breakfast and lunch in all schools district-wide. Meals are prepared in accordance with United States Department of Agriculture regulations, with updates beginning in the 2012-2013 school year based on the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. These guidelines align with the goals of our District Wellness Committee.

Major School Meal Changes:

  • Students are required to take a serving of fruit and/or vegetables as part of their meal.
     
  • Calorie minimums and maximums are set for different grade levels (K-5, 6-8, 9-12).
     
  • Greater variety of vegetables, including dark green and red/orange varieties, and beans/legumes.
     
  • Increased whole grain offerings.
     
  • Milk choices include plain low-fat, fat-free, and flavored fat-free options.
     
  • Reduced saturated fat and sodium.
     
  • 0 grams of trans fat.

Our district is proud to have already met these requirements and we continually seek new menu items to enhance the program for our students.
