Fine and Performing Arts
The Fine & Performing Arts Department of the Glen Cove City School District is committed to providing a comprehensive arts education to all students. In the 2022-2023 school year, our department has been successful in formalizing professional development around the New York State Arts Learning Standards as we continue to focus on aligning instruction across content areas and arts disciplines in order to increase student achievement in the arts. The department has also been recently successful in applying for and being approved as an awarded school district for the IAAP (Individual Arts Assessment Pathway) in order to provide Glen Cove students more ways to increase their artistic achievements, which can also contribute to their overall academic success.
The Visual Arts program continues to expand curricular and experiential opportunities for students such as Advanced Placement Visual Art, the National Art Honor Society, and collaboration with the Downtown BID of Glen Cove to create original banner artwork and beautify our city. The Theater & Dance program is beginning its first pilot year and has already successfully created an improvisation troupe in order to allow students access to real-world comedy experiences while being exposed to healthy artistic competition across the North East Region. The Music program was awarded a noteworthy accomplishment of NAMM Outstanding Community for Music Education for two years consecutively. Our music concerts in the district are publicized and shared on social media across various platforms. These events are well attended by families due to their overwhelming support for the Music Program. Our Media Communications & Arts program has been recognized by BASH (Long Island Broadcasting Awards Program) at Hofstra University for multiple awards. Our state of the art Television Studio allows for students to be surrounded by professional arts experiences.
Our Fine & Performing Arts Department is committed to presenting to the Board of Education and greater community in the sharing of work and accomplishments achieved as well as the communication of exciting new arts opportunities and experiences. We are determined to form relationships with families, teachers, community members and administrative teams who also assist in the continuation of moving our work for all students forward.
