Middle School Counseling

Welcome to the Robert M. Finley Middle School Counseling Department!

The Middle School Counseling Department will focus on academic achievement, setting personal goals, student-rights and responsibilities, respect for themselves and others, as well as understanding student developmental stages. These goals will be accomplished through a comprehensive approach using individual and small group counseling, classroom guidance, consulting and coordinating with other related support staff and teachers.

In addition, the School Counselors facilitate groups on self-esteem, future planning, career education, decision making, conflict resolution, peer pressure and other issues of particular concern to students.

The master notebook will be supported in the counseling program.

One, in particular, would be a tool called Naviance. Naviance is an online program with many tools to help you discover your future career, strengths, and learning style. Also, we will be inviting you into our offices for your sixth-grade family meeting to discuss all of the wonderful options available at Finley Middle School and check in on your transition to the school. Finally, you are now part of a Google Classroom listed in your account titled by your expected year of high school graduation. This is a prime resource for everything we do in the Counseling Department. Parents can also have access; just reach out to your school counselor to be added to this site. Hello 7th Grade Students and Families,

Welcome to seventh grade. For those who are new to our school, we are happy to have you with us, and for those who are returning, we look forward to continuing to help you along your academic journey. Hello 8th Grade Students and Families,

Congratulations on entering your final year at Robert Finley MS. We welcome both new and returning students to an exciting school year. Your counselors are eager to continue assisting you throughout your path, working toward high school and beyond. We will be visiting you in the classroom multiple times this year. In September, we will be seeing you in your classes to check in on the start of the school year, but we will also be stopping in again to speak about the online tool Naviance and go into detail about the course selection process for your upcoming freshman year in high school. Also, you will be getting invited to your eighth-grade family meeting, where we will disusss your transition to high school, drafting your high school schedule, and other valuable items.
