Prioritizing Student-Athlete Safety: AED Locations and Protocols
In light of local current events and as we look ahead to the Spring athletic season, we want to provide an update regarding the availability and placement of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) at Glen Cove City School District athletic facilities. These measures reflect our established practices, which we will continue to maintain and regularly review.
The Glen Cove City School District is committed to the health and safety of all student-athletes, staff, and spectators at athletic events. As part of this commitment, we are sharing an overview of the AED locations available during athletic activities.
In addition to the permanently installed AEDs located in the High School Main Gym and the Middle School Gym, the district maintains several portable AED units to ensure accessibility across athletic venues.
High School Athletic Facilities
Portable AEDs are located in the following areas:
- Tennis stand
- Field outside of the gym (girls’ soccer and lacrosse practice field)
- Main athletic field
Middle School Athletic Facilities
Portable AEDs will be designated in two locations closest to team practice areas to ensure timely access in the event of an emergency.
These protocols represent our established safety practices, and the Athletic Department will continue to assess and, as appropriate, adjust the locations of portable AEDs throughout the year based on venue usage and athletic activity schedules.
As an important reminder, all Glen Cove coaches are certified in CPR, First Aid, and AED use. In the event of a medical emergency, staff will follow all established district safety protocols as outlined in the district’s Safety Plan and reinforced through ongoing training.
The safety and well-being of our student-athletes remain our top priority. Thank you for your continued support of Glen Cove Athletics.
